At Maajara, every project is the beginning of a story.
A story shaped by its site, its culture, human needs and the forgotten qualities of space.

Maajara began in Shiraz in 1400 (2021). The architecture and urban design studio was founded by Faegheh Shahriari, who holds a master’s degree in architecture from Shahid Beheshti University, and Elnaz Didari, who holds a master’s degree in architecture from Shiraz University, with the belief that every piece of land has something to say before the first line is drawn on it.
In Persian, maajara means “what happens”: an event with a setting, a knot and its untying. That is how we read every project: a context to understand, a question to open and a space to build.
The Maajara mark can be read like a plan. Its letters are built from lines and masses: the alefs stand like columns, the mim leans on the connecting bar like a turned room, and the dot of the jim is a solid volume resting on the ground. Here, writing and building are one act.
No design starts from a blank page. The land, the alley, the neighbours, the climate and the memory of a place are the first narrators of every project.
We design for the life that will flow through a space: for solitude and company, for everyday habits and for tomorrow’s changes.
For us, architectural quality is inseparable from the realities of building and its economics. The art lies in finding beauty within those limits.
Where spatial experience, architectural quality and the economics of building sit side by side.

Shiraz is a city of gardens and courtyards: a city that brings the sky into the home, weaves light with brick and shares out shade along its alleys. Maajara comes from the heart of this city, and tries to retell, in today’s language, the qualities that the rush of construction has forgotten.
